What is ActiveCampaign?
ActiveCampaign is an email autoresponder built with powerful email automation capabilities to send personalized emails to prospective customers.
Email marketing is super important! Why? Because your email list should be your #1 focus when building an online business.
Your email list is one of the few things you can truly OWN. Consequently, that’s also why getting the right email autoresponder with next-level email automation that converts cold traffic to buyers through automated follow-up emails is such a game-changer.
Now, what features are inside the ActiveCampaign you might ask?
Well, here’s a brief overview of what you’ll be getting before I dive deep into all the features in a little later on in this review:
- Contacts
- Campaigns
- Automations
- Conversations
- Lists
- Forms
- Reports
The possibilities are truly endless for what you can do to customize how you interact with potential customers with automated email follow-up. 😄
Who is ActiveCampaign for?
I’m glad you asked this! 😉
ActiveCampaign is truly for anyone who wants to create email automations that can be personalized for a specific contact to maximize conversions and sales.
Take a look at the list of exactly who ActiveCampaign is for…
- You’re serious about email marketing automation
- You want the ability to personalized emails

- Friendly user interface
- Built-in email spam testing
…Yep! Those are just a few of the features that stand out for those who would benefit from using ActiveCampaign.
What is an email autoresponder?
Before we get too far, let’s take a quick look at what an email autoresponder is.
An email autoresponder in its simplest form is automatically following up with leads through pre-written email campaigns. In turn, a certain percentage of leads will be converted into customers after sending out emails to your offers.
Typically, you start out your email automation with a soap opera sequence and then move onto the Seinfeld sequences.
A soap opera sequence is critical to building trust with your audience and reader by bridging the gap between not knowing you or your product to trusting what you have to say and believe in your main product.
The Seinfeld sequences are ongoing short email sequences or stories meant to captivate the reader by providing value and possibly sell additional products higher in your value ladder.
It’s all about building the know, like, and trust factor of you and your business.
With this being said, your business needs to be using email marketing to effectively follow up with your leads to get more conversions on your offers and more sales. Otherwise, the front-end sales conversion rate will likely not be enough to remain profitable.
Under-The-Hood ActiveCampaign Features
Now, let’s take a look inside ActiveCampaign and see exactly what you’ll be getting.
What’s nice about ActiveCampaign is that there’s a main dashboard where everything is laid out in an easy-to-follow manner.
You can quickly view things like the recent activity of contacts, interaction rate, active contacts, and view top contacts among other things.
Now, let’s dive deeper into each menu item on the left-hand side.
Contacts
Let’s start off by taking a look at the contacts features within ActiveCampaign.
You can see from the image above that ActiveCampaign provides a nice table outlining each contact’s name, email, phone number, corresponding tags, and the date the contact was added to your list.
The most useful thing I’ve found is that you can use the drop-down filters to sort by tag name, list, or status. You can even search for the name of a specific contact.
I personally like to have my contacts segmented with different tags and only have a few lists. I breakdown my tags into the following 3 main tag categories:
- Interest
- Source
- Purchased
I then make individual tags for if they’re interested in affiliate marketing, my course, or any other products. The source category of tags is what I use to specify whether a contact came from my blog, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or any other platform. Lastly, I use the purchased category of tags to note whenever someone has purchased a specific product or service.
Now, why are tags so amazing?
Because based upon a contact’s tags I can implement specific automations of pre-written emails to better serve my customers.😀
Campaigns
Campaigns in ActiveCampaign are essentially email blasts that you can send out as one-time emails or a series of emails.
The campaigns are also laid out nicely in a table format.
The feature I most often use is to view reports. When clicking on view reports, it allows you to see exactly how many opens of the email you received, link clicks, and the specific time a contact opened an email or clicked a link.
Automations
The automations tab is where the magic happens!
What I really like is the fact that you can label specific automations to categorize everything which will help tremendously in the long run as you build out more and more automations.
The most important thing you can do with automations is segmenting.
The automation capabilities with ActiveCampaign truly are next-level. You can do if-else conditions, add tags, and so much more.
Conversations
Conversations is another unique feature that ActiveCampaign provides.
It allows you to incorporate a live chat widget directly on your own website and integrate it with your email automations.
This provides a truly personalized experience for your customers.
Lists
The lists in ActiveCampaign is another commonly used feature.
What I personally do and recommend, is to only create a few lists and segment contacts primarily based upon applying various tags inside your email automations.
For instance, I have one main list and a few other lists for those who have purchased specific products. Everything else is based upon my tags. 😀
Forms
In order to add contacts to your autoresponder, you need to create the opt-in forms.
What’s nice is that the forms creation process is actually fairly straightforward.
Reports
If you’re like me, you spend most of your time looking at reports of campaigns to see how well they performed. 😄
Well, ActiveCampaign provides some pretty incredible reports that provide you quite a bit of detail. You can see exactly how many opens, clicks, and what contacts specifically performed the actions.
The most important thing with these reports is that you discern what’s working in terms of getting you the most opens and highest click-through-rate to then build upon.
What are the best parts of ActiveCampaign?
Best Part #1: Next-Level Automations
Most autoresponders have an okay automations component and some even have hardly any. With ActiveCampaign you’re getting the best out there in terms of automation capabilities.
You’ll be able to segment leads in almost any way imaginable and do so in a manner that’s easy to figure out.
Best Part #2: Incredible Email Deliverability!
Why is email deliverability so important?
Well, if you can’t get your emails delivered to people’s inboxes then they never even get to read your emails!
As you can see from the image above, ActiveCampaign has the best email deliverability rates out of all the other email autoresponders.
Best Part #3: Contact Tagging
Having the ability to apply tags based upon specific actions makes all the difference when segmenting contacts.
As I stated earlier on in this review, what I do is I have three main tag categories: Source, Interest, and Purchase.
What’s Not So Great About ActiveCampaign
Bad Part: Difficult To Learn Initially
Since there are so many features, it can honestly be a little overwhelming when you’re first trying to learn the software.
The good news is that you ActiveCampaign provides plenty of tutorials to help you get things set up in a timely manner.
In addition, they have 24/7 support so you can always ask questions no matter the time of day if you’re stuck.
ActiveCampaign Pricing: Breakdown
Let’s talk pricing for this ActiveCampaign Review. 😉👌
The ActiveCampaign prices listed above are for 500 contacts.
So, for just $9/month you can get started building your email list and growing it into becoming your most valuable asset.
From there, you’ll start to make more sales and graduate to higher plans over time. In my opinion, this is perfect for anyone starting out and building a business from scratch.
